Tribhuvan University's Winter School Illuminates Himalayan Climate Dynamics for Student Scholars


Tribhuvan University orchestrated a pioneering Winter School, spotlighting glaciers, climate shifts, and environmental ramifications in the Himalayan expanse. Bolstered by the esteemed French Research and Development Institute (IRD France), Kathmandu Center for Research and Education, and Integrated International Mountain Center (ISMOD), this initiative provided a pivotal platform for 25 students, drawing from Nepal and international locales.



Comprehensive 11-Day Immersion:

Spanning from Mangshir 21 to Poush 01, this comprehensive program seamlessly integrated classroom pedagogy with practical field studies. Participants explored the intricacies of remote sensing technology, employing it to scrutinize the snow-capped terrains and glaciers within the Everest region's Khumbu area.


Cultivating Global Partnerships:

Acting Vice-Chancellor Prada Shivlal Bhusal advocated for interdepartmental embrace of international collaborations to enrich students' academic pursuits. Prof. Dr. Vinil Aryal, Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology Studies, highlighted the department's burgeoning global impact in water and meteorology, fostered by such collaborative ventures.


Guidance and Mentorship:

IRD representatives Dr. Patrick Wagnon and Dr. Edina Rakovitanu steered students to active engagement, encouraging curiosity and inquiry. Prof. Dr. Deepak Aryal, Department Head, commended the Winter School for igniting a fervor for research and cultivating intellectual acumen through immersive field studies.
