Complete Guide to Get Through St. Xavier's Entrance Exam and Interview with Personal Experience

Studying in the top college of Nepal for NEB +2 i.e. St. Xavier’s College (SXC), Maitighar is dream for many of the students all over the nation. After SEE the first priority for every students to study +2 is St. Xavier’s College but not all of them can get into it. That’s why entering St. Xavier’s College is not that easy. They conduct an entrance exam to select students to be eligible for their college. In between 10,000 and 20,000 students compete in the entrance exam among of which about 550 students are selected for the interview. Interview is the final round for the selection of the students to get admitted. As a selected student, currently studying in St. Xavier’s College, Maitighar, I have a complete experience from ending of SEE to getting admitted to SXC so, I can guide you in-depth aspects for selection and also will be sharing my experience in the process of selection. First of all,

What are expected SEE result for the selection?

SEE result is the controversial topic for the selection. It matters but you need not to lose hope if you have a low scores in some of the subjects below the eligibility criteria. There are lots of my friend who have even lower grades in STEM subjects but did good in their interview and got selected. Selection for the entrance examination is totally on merit basis and SEE result is not considered in the entrance test. After cracking entrance exam, interview is the crucial phase if you have low scores. In my case I have luckily perfect and minimal score to be eligible and done great in interview (first interview experience). So, I was pretty sure for my selection after my interview.

Eligibility criteria for selection

  • Must have grade A or above in Science, Maths, Opt. maths and English
  • Must have at least B+ or above in other subjects

What if I do not have selected Opt. math as an optional subject?

It does not affect too much in your selection just focus on the opt. maths topics to crack entrance exam and do good in the interview to get selected. There are lots of my friend who got selected who had ever studied Opt. maths in their entrance preparation.

How much result of grade 8 matters?

It does not effects at all. I have considerable low score and would get rejected if grade 8 result would be considered. In my case, I was batch of lockdown that is also the reason why it didn’t effected my selection.

Remember that, your selection depend on your interviewer after selection in entrance test which is totally on merit basis. So, you need to convince them through your personality.

What to do after SEE to crack entrance?

For the selection in entrance test, you need to start your preparation as soon as possible since there is tough competition. There are lots of institutes that provide bridge course and some of them specially provides St. Xavier’s college entrance preparation. Top institutions providing St. Xavier’s entrance tests are Intel institute, Tesla institute, etc. Even though, institute does not affect your study too much. In my case, I had studied from a newly established online course. All the support they can provide is a bridge between a gap and nothing more than that. So, you need to prepare at your own efforts.

What is the course for entrance of St. Xavier’s College?

Talking frankly, there is no any complete course provided by institution for their entrance test. All of the entrance preparation institutes provide courses to the students by observing past year questions. But there is a misconception that questions are asked from grade 11 in considerable amount, truth is that you need to know snippets of course of grade 11 only and that is enough to ace your entrance. Talking about my experience, I had enrolled in online course and all the institute focuses on grade 11 as they are supposed to fill the gap between the course of grade 10 and 11. This practice put the students in dilemma about the course and overview of entrance. Since I was feeling difficulties to study grade 11 course as a beginner, I used to see only overview of grade 11 course and get focused on grade 8, 9 and 10 courses which was lead in the entrance test question by taking about 80% to 90% area of the question. But, there was difference in the way of asking questions by adding difficulties in questions. English questions are too tough that I had found in my point of view.

Why St. Xavier’s College is the best?

Talking about teaching strategies for the NEB +2 course, there is no any difference at St. Xavier’s College and others second priorities colleges like KMC, CCRC, Trinity, etc. The only difference in strategy is that it does not enforce you to make notes which makes standout from the list of considerations. The main aspect that makes St. Xavier’s College a best college are its clubs, alumni networks, different activities and and events, ECA, opportunities and exposures, diversity, guidance and many more. Another plus point for this college is the transparency of this college their is nothing hidden from the students in aspect whether it is fee or any additional charges. As most of the events are organized by students studying at the college, it ensure more transparency and responsibilities to the students. Also the infrastructures and availability of all facilities such as Watrin hall (auditorium), top notch labs, well equiped library, free spaces, architectures and environment of the college makes the college to be one and only priority for the students to study.
