Brief Overview of Coding Olympics Nepal (CON)

Coding Olympics Nepal (CON) is a national-level organization that is gearing up to organize the largest coding competition ever in Nepal for secondary level students. Spearheaded by Mr. Susan Dangol, a Hult Prize winner, CON is mobilizing over 200 committee members and volunteers to make this grand event a reality. With a focus on nurturing interest in coding, CON is currently conducting various sessions virtually and in-person, reaching out to schools across the country. One of their ongoing initiatives, the Hour of Code, has gained significant traction and is prominently featured on their top social media page ‘RONB.’ Demonstrating their commitment to inclusivity and nationwide reach, CON is organizing programs in over 20 major cities across Nepal.

The competition follows a simple procedure. It begins with preliminary rounds taking place in the aforementioned cities, where selected students will showcase their coding skills at the national level. However, the sole purpose of this project is not just to hold a competition; it aims to provide students with an opportunity to expose themselves to the modern world. Coding Olympics Nepal’s primary objective is to raise awareness among secondary level students in Nepal, equipping them with the skills to thrive in a competitive world.

CON has successfully collaborated with numerous institutions and organizations, adding to the program’s organization and impact. With partnerships with dozens of leading organizations including media partners, sponsors, and community partners, the Coding Olympics Nepal initiative is well-supported. Some of the prominent organizations collaborating with CON include Hult Prize, STEM Alliance, CSiT, ICT Khabar, Reti Inst., and The British College, among others.

CON will happen exclusively in physical medium instead of virtually in two stages :

  • On-City CON
  • CON Finalle

Registration for Coding Olympics Nepal is currently open, and students from class 4 to 10 can register through the Google Forms available on their official Facebook page. The registration fee for CON is NRs. 5000, which covers over a week of workshops and includes a premium CodeMonkey worldwide course. CodeMonkey is an international platform that effectively teaches coding to kids, and it has attracted over 180 million young learners worldwide with its exceptional mentors.

The CON competition will be held in two different levels: junior level and senior level. The expected date for the competition is Asar 2080. The junior level will include students from grades 4 to 6, while the senior level will include students from grades 7 to 10. Two programming languages, CoffeeScript for juniors and Python for seniors, will be introduced to the students for the competition. Workshops and sessions will be conducted to teach these languages to the participants, so no prior coding knowledge is required to take part.
